Barrie Sports: Weekend Edition Dec. 3

Bradford Blue & Gold Classic

The Bradford Blue & Gold youth hockey tournament takes place this weekend. The tourney begins Friday morning on Dec. 3 and concludes Sunday afternoon on Dec. 5. Local teams from the U10-U15 programs are guaranteed a minimum of three games throughout the event and will compete under a round-robin format. Further, the top two teams from each respective division will play for the championship on Sunday.

Barrie will be represented at the event as well. The U13 HL/LL Barrie Kings and U15 MD Barrie Colts Jr. clubs will travel to Bradford to compete for division supremacy. Additionally, first-place teams will receive a team trophy along with a championship team picture on Weekend Hockey’s official page.

Barrie Colts Weekend Games Postponed

The Colts will get a break from action this weekend. Unfortunately, the Colts’ scheduled opponent, the Sudbury Wolves, has suspended all team activities due to a positive COVID-19 test. The Colts will return to action on Dec. 11 at Sadlon Arena when they host North Bay Battalion for the first time this season.

Barrie Curling Club Mixed Doubles Bonspiel

The Barrie Curling Club hosts a weekend tournament on Dec. 4 for avid curling enthusiasts. Moreover, the event will include two draws and a guarantee of two games per team. Admission to the tourney is $40 per person and will provide snacks, lunch & refreshments for participants. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

Barrie Wrestling Weekend Action

On Saturday, Dec. 4, Barrie Wrestling kicks off with its “Give Till It Hurts” event as Lionel Knight squares off against Jessie V in the All Ontario Cup Finals for the AOC Championship, starting at 2. Furthermore, “The Indiest Christmas Wrestling Show” commences at 5:00 PM. At the same time, Lionel Knight pulls double duty, challenging Mark Wheeler for the BW Heavyweight Championship.

Georgian Grizzlies News

The Grizzlies conclude the 2021 calendar year as the men’s basketball team travels to Conestoga College to play the Condors in an exhibition match. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM. To date, the Grizzlies are winless in exhibition competition, with the hope of closing out 2021 with victory.
