Barrie Winter Classic Jr tournament gets underway

After another brief hiatus, youth hockey tournaments are back in full swing! The 400 Cup presents the Barrie Winter Classic Jr tournament for AAA, AA, A, AE, and House League divisions. The tourney takes place at the Barrie Community Sports Complex in Minesing, Ontario.

Mack Guzda sits down with TSN’s Mark Masters

Oh my, has Guzda taken his game to another level since joining the Barrie Colts. The 21-year-old netminder continues garnering attention from NHL teams. Furthermore, Guzda sat down with TSN’s Mark Masters to discuss his journey to this moment.

“I had a long time there, with us missing a season, to look at my entire game. The work I did over that year has helped me build a good, consistent foundation that’s helped me out this year,” Guzda told Masters.

Barrie Colts duel the Oshawa Generals in weekend contests

The Colts resume action this weekend. This time, it’s all about Oshawa! First, Colts County welcomes the Generals to Sadlon Arena for a Saturday night contest. In their previous meeting, Barrie walked away with a 5-4 overtime victory.

Next, the boys trade places and head to Tribute Communities Centre for a Sunday evening rematch. The puck drop is at 6:05 PM. Now losers of three straight games, the Colts hope to regain momentum and right the ship.

Moreover, the OHL looks forward to February by delving into the importance of Black Heritage Month.

Barrie Soccer Club is hiring

As league activity gets underway, The Barrie Soccer Club is looking to hire a Club Administrator and U4-U6 Grassroots Coach. Interested parties can apply on the club’s website. Additionally, house league seasons commence in May later this year and seek volunteers. BSC is looking for Game Leaders or Coaches and should email if interested.

Georgian Grizzlies and OCAA update

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association announced a return to competition this month. Furthermore, student-athletes may resume training again. OCAA basketball and volleyball games begin Feb. 9. The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has hampered intercollegiate play throughout the past two years, forcing the OCAA to reformat its schedule to maximize both games and opponents for teams.

OCC Regional Cornhole Tournament

Cornhole lovers, rejoice! The Orillia Cornhole Club is hosting its regional event this weekend. Furthermore, the tourney takes place at Orillia’s District Agricultural Society on Feb. 6. Both social and competitive-level tiers are available for aspiring participants.
