Barrie Baycats announce partnership with Rogers TV

Get excited, Baycats fans! Watching home games just got easier for the upcoming 2022 Intercounty Baseball League season. Baycats home games will air live on Rogers TV Barrie (Cable 10), the team confirmed on its website.

Additionally, Baycats President Josh Matlow shared his enthusiasm for the newfound partnership.

“Rogers TV plays a monumental role in the growth of the Baycats, the game of baseball and local sports within Simcoe County.”

Furthermore, familiar play-by-play commentator Ben Davy returns for his ninth season with the Baycats. Davy previously provided play-by-play commentary for Barrie Colts broadcasts on Rogers TV. Also, Patrick Melbourne returns for an encore to join Davy at the broadcast booth.

Barrie Colts continue their sizzling hot streak

Colts fans, stand up! The wins are piling up for the Colts as the 2021-22 OHL season roars on. Moreover, the team is 7-2-1 over a ten-game stretch and 20-9-3 overall.

Winners of three straight, the Colts obliterated the Sudbury Wolves Tuesday night by a whopping score of 9-1. Scoring depth was on full display as nine different Colts skaters potted goals in the game.

Next, the boys returned home to Sadlon arena on Thursday for a shot at redemption against the Owen Sound Attack. In their last meeting, the Colts dropped the contest 3-2.

Beau Jelsma was the star of the show. The forward scored his first career OHL hat-trick and finished with four points on the night. Further, goaltender Mack Guzda made 24 saves for the routine shutout.

Barrie’s team heads into the weekend with a full steam of momentum. The Colts travel to GFL Memorial Gardens to face the Soo Greyhounds Saturday night, followed by a rematch in Sudbury with the Wolves.

Barrie Soccer Club registration is now open

It’s finally time, soccer fans! The Barrie Soccer Club announced the 2022 Outdoor House League registration is now open for youth and adult leagues. Additionally, anyone interested in joining can sign up here.

In addition, the organization’s U21 Men’s High-Performance team is seeking new players. If you love the game of soccer and want to test your merit, now is the time! Applications are available online.

Simcoe County Rovers FC news

The team announced another significant signing this past week. The Rovers inked the 2021 League1 MVP and Golden Boot winner (13 goals), Reshon Phillip. Phillip’s signing is a loud statement by the Rovers, proving they aren’t just here to take part – they’re here to take over!

In addition, the Rovers are hosting open trials next month on February 22nd and 23rd for the Women’s team. The tryouts take place at the Aurora Sports Dome in Aurora, ON. For more information, visit the link here.

Sojourn Outdoors snowshoe hikes are in session

Snowshoe season is officially underway! Sojourn is inviting avid snowshoers out to Horseshoe Valley for evening Wednesday meetups. The hikes take place from 7-9 PM. Moreover, participants are asked to meet in the lower parking lot of The Heights of Horseshoe Ski and Country Club.

The pace of the hikes is reported to be “steady,” roaming distances of 3-5 km over flat and hilly terrain. Be sure to dress appropriately and prepare for snowy conditions!
