Barrie Trojan Swimming Pentathlon meet gets underway
Barrie and local swimming clubs are back in action!
This weekend kicks off with a five-event swim meet for eligible Swimming Canada swimmers. The Trojan Pentathlon is a short course meet-up to get swimmers back into the spirit of competition. Additionally, swimmers registered in all five events have an opportunity to win cash prizes and a medal.
The 2022 Trojan Pentathlon takes place at the East Bayfield Community Centre in a 25 m, 8-lane pool. Entering the facility will require proof of vaccination and a valid ID. Furthermore, the competition kicks off Saturday morning and wraps up Sunday evening.
The top-3 male and female swimmers from each age group will receive awards in the following categories: Sprint, Mid Distance, and Ironman.
Barrie Ball Hockey spring season begins
The 2022 spring season FINALLY starts up! The Barrie Ball Hockey league resumes play after a lengthy absence, and people are excited. In addition, the first wave of matches commences Sunday, March 6, across the club’s four outdoor rinks at 125 Ferndale Drive.
Teams participating across men’s, women’s, co-ed, and veteran (over 40) leagues will get their first taste of competition. Moreover, games are in session from 3-8:30 pm. Barrie Ball Hockey offers inclusion for all ages and skill levels.
Barrie Colts get back in the saddle
Last night’s match against the Kingston Frontenacs resulted in a 4-3 victory for the Colts. Additionally, Zach Wigle scored his first OHL goal. Mack Guzda made 28 saves between the pipes.
The Colts are back to work with two games this weekend. First, the Colts host the Ottawa 67’s at Sadlon Arena. Further, puck drop is on Saturday at 7:30 pm. Barrie defeated Ottawa 5-2 at TD Place in their last meeting.
Next, the boys travel to Sudbury Community Arena for a division rival game against the Sudbury Wolves. The Wolves have prevailed over the Colts the past three meetings. Furthermore, the Colts trail the Mississauga Steelheads by a considerable 14 points for the Central Division lead.
The team continues its 14-game schedule during the calendar month.
Georgian Grizzlies upcoming schedule
Speaking of schedules, the Georgian Grizzlies enjoy an eventful weekend of activity.
First, the men’s basketball team (6-1) plays their final regular season game against the Algonquin Wolves. Moreover, the Grizzlies travel to Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre for a Friday evening contest. The club recently made its first appearance in the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association’s top-15 rankings.
Also, the men’s and women’s volleyball teams host Seneca Sting at Georgian College. The women’s team plays tonight at 6 pm, while the men’s club takes the court at 8 pm. Finally, the Grizzlies volleyball teams head to Fleming College for Sunday afternoon games against the Knights.
