Baycats Re-Sign Trio of Players

Barrie’s beloved Baycats kept busy this weekend, signing a handful of players to return to action for the 2022 IBL season. First, the seven-time champs announced Avery Tucker had re-signed.

Next, the Baycats announced the return of infielder Owen Jansen. The Oakville native owned a 0.258 batting average last season while chipping in 9 RBI.

Finally, the Baycats revealed that catcher Tyler Plumpton had agreed to return. 2022 will mark Plumpton’s fourth season with the Baycats. What’s more, the Baycats continue to re-tool the lineup, hoping to rebuild a roster that had previously won six consecutive championships (2014-2019).

Barrie Colts Jersey Auction

While the Colts enjoyed a break from competition, the team set its sights on charitable work. Moreover, the Colts partnered with the Real Canadian Superstore to auction off team jerseys. The proceeds will be donated to the PC Children’s Charity.

Barrie Wrestling Crowns New Heavyweight Champion

“The Indiest Christmas Wrestling Show Ever!” produced shocking results this past Saturday. Unexpectedly, the man they call “El Diablo,” Gabriel Fuerza, found himself challenging champ Mark Wheeler in the main event. Fuerza subbed in for original title challenger Lionel Knight, unavailable for the event. Fuerza sunset flipped off the top ropes, rolling up Wheeler for the three-count and snatching away the title in the process.

Georgian Grizzlies Results

The men’s basketball team concluded its trip to Conestoga College, taking on the Condors in an exhibition game. The Grizzlies were victorious, defeating the Condors 75-62 for their first win of the year!

Additionally, the Grizzlies hosted Seneca Sting in a volleyball showdown. The Grizzlies women’s squad dropped their first set before rallying back to win the following three, earning a 3-1 victory over the Sting.
