Mark Smither captures the Canadian Super Lightweight title

It was a “Marvellous” Saturday evening at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario. Additionally, Smither improved to 7-0 as a professional boxer, defeating Paul Ispas (4-1-3) in the co-main event of United Boxing Promotion’s Singh vs. Balmir fight card. Further, Smither wins his first championship in his blossoming athletic career.

Barrie minor hockey team wins at weekend tournament

The Lefroy Icebreakers hosted the season year-end hockey tournament this past weekend. Moreover, the Barrie Black U9-HL minor hockey team claimed victory, defeating the Twin Centre Stars in the finals on Sunday, 3-2. Furthermore, the Black finished 2-1-1 by scoring 15 goals and allowing just eight against.

Barrie Colts weekend results

The Colts visited the Sudbury Wolves on Saturday at Sudbury Community Arena. Moreover, the Colts dropped a high-scoring affair to the Wolves by a score of 8-5. Hunter Haight scored twice while goaltender Matteo Lalama made 23 saves in a losing effort.

Additionally, Sunday’s game against the Peterborough Petes was postponed. The game will be rescheduled later in the season.

Simcoe County Rovers sign two new players

The Rovers inked two new midfielders over the weekend. Firstly, the team welcomed Tre Crosby to the fold. Tre hails from Toronto, previously representing St. Vincent and Grenadines International. Furthermore, Brampton native Miran Duncan, 17, becomes the youngest signing to date by the Rovers.

Georgian Grizzlies sweep weekend games

The men’s basketball club continued its winning ways.

Firstly, the Grizzlies hosted the Durham Lords Friday at Georgian College and secured a 93-83 victory. Jaylen Moore-Tucker and Malcolm Liddell led the scoring with 15 points apiece.

In addition, the men’s and women’s volleyball squads swept the Loyalist Lancers on Saturday 3-0.

Further, Grizzlies travelled to Loyalist College on Sunday, defeating the Lancers 81-79 in overtime. Additionally, Kevonte Anderson led the charge off an 18-point, 11 rebound double-double.
