Barrie Colts trail 3-2 in playoff series vs. Mississauga Steelheads

Colts Country suffered defeat on Saturday night against the Steelheads, dropping the contest 4-1. The Colts were overwhelmed at Paramount Fine Foods Centre while outshot 35-19. Declan McDonnell potted Barrie’s lone goal, and goaltender Mack Guzda made 32 saves.

The Colts return home to Sadlon Arena tonight for a must-win Game 6. Correspondingly, a victory would force a Game 7 back in Mississauga. Game 7 would take place on Wednesday at 7 pm, provided that the Colts pull through tonight.

Barrie Colts finalize draft picks in 2022 OHL Priority Selection

The Colts completed 18 draft selections in this year’s OHL Priority Draft. Day 1 concluded on Saturday after three rounds while the Colts made four selections. In addition, the club selected Cole Beaudoin from the Nepean Raiders with the 10th overall pick.

The 6-foot-2, 190 lb. power-forward scored 77 points in 32 games with the Raiders. Afterward, the Colts selected Carter Lowe with the 26th pick. Lowe provides additional size at 6-foot-2, 184 lbs. The Colts then selected Lucas Ellinas with the 29th pick and Kashawn Aitcheson 50th overall.

Ultimately, the Colts succeeded in replenishing the prospect pool. The team now shifts its focus back to tonight’s pivotal Game 6 against the Steelheads.

Simcoe County Rovers pick up two road wins

The Rovers have looked fantastic after two weeks of action.

The women’s club remains undefeated following a 2-0 victory over Alliance United FC on Saturday. Soumaya Bouak struck a minute into the match, followed by Brianne Desa’s tally at the 30-minute mark. Moreover, Goalkeeper Yazmeen Jamieson delivered another flawless performance.

The women have outscored the opposition 5-0 across two matches.

Finally, the men’s squad took to the pitch at L’Amoreaux Sports Complex against Master’s FA. The men picked up their first victory in club history 3-2. Leaford Allen scored his second goal in as many games, while Ethan Beckford and Shawn Claud-Lawson scored their first goals of the season.

Additionally, the win moves the Rovers into a five-way tie for second place in the League1 Ontario Men’s Premier standings.

The Rovers return to J.C. Massie Field this Saturday. The women take the pitch at 4 pm against Burlington FC, followed by the men hosting Alliance United FC at 7 pm.
