Rovers continue playoff push with weekend matches
The Simcoe County Rovers FC shall resume action this Saturday, June 18, at J.C. Massie Field. Previously, the women’s club (7-1-3) battled Electric City FC to a 1-1 draw, while the men’s squad (6-2-2) defeated Burlington SC, 2-0. Furthermore, the clubs rank third and fourth in their respective divisions.
On Wednesday, June 15, at Fleming College, an incident occurred involving racial abuse from an opposing team’s spectators at a Rovers FC Women’s player. As a result, the team and staff chose to abandon the match. Subsequently, the spectators in question have been dealt with. League1 Ontario’s Board of Directors will meet later to discuss rescheduling.
The Rovers will play Vaughan Azzurri on Saturday at 4 pm in the Women’s Premier Division. Afterward, the men’s club takes the pitch to host Sigma FC at 7 pm. Moreover, the men’s team rides a two-game win streak into Saturday’s match, while the women remain undefeated at home.
Baycats look to regain ground in IBL standings
The Barrie Baycats (7-6) returned to the win column on Thursday against the Hamilton Cardinals, winning 11-4. Despite recent inconsistencies, the Baycats take Thursday’s momentum to Arnold Anderson Stadium. There, they’ll play the Brantford Red Sox tonight at 8 pm.
Then on Sunday, the Cats travel to Labatt Memorial Park to meet the London Majors at 1:05 pm.
Notably, the Baycats are 3-3 over a six-game stretch. The team aims to find better consistency heading into the weekend competition. Baycats baseball remains on the road until Thursday, June 23, when the team returns to Vintage Throne Stadium to host the Kitchener Panthers.

Bombers Jr. C lacrosse news
The Barrie Bombers Jr. C lacrosse club returns home tonight to host the Halton Hills Bulldogs. What’s more, the Bombers aim to earn consecutive victories over the Bulldogs. The Bombers previously defeated the Bulldogs 16-8 on June 1.
In addition, the game takes place at Peggy Hill Team Community Centre. While it hasn’t been a strong campaign from the Bombers, the team has battled hard in each contest. Following Friday’s game, the Bombers remain at home to host the Fergus Thistles on Sunday, June 19, beginning at 2 pm.
Finally, the Barrie Minor Lacrosse Association participates in this weekend’s Anthony Acchione Memorial Classic. Further, free entry is provided to those accompanied by a paying adult. The tournament runs until Sunday, June 19.
