TGIF: A Magic Trick
Let’s be honest…there are worse ways to kickstart the weekend than with a cold beverage.
And yet, it’s easy to fall into a routine of buying the same couple of beers or spirits at your favorite watering hole or the LCBO. Of course, there’s always going to be your standard go-to’s. But mixing it up (get it…mixing???) makes for a fun outing.
With that in mind, we’re taking a shot (bet you thought we would stop with the drinking puns after that first one) at finding you a weekly selection of spirits to liven up your Friday.
This week why don’t your try…
EVERYDAY MAGIC – SAWDUST CITY

Like many IPAs, the appearance is an inviting hazy gold, almost closer to orange juice. That first pour is capped by three fingers of dense white head. Look for plenty of spidery lacing that clings to the glass and orbits the edges. After settling, sparse amounts of sediment drift to the bottom of the glass.
As for the initial smell, expect tropical aromas (in a big way). That’s backed up by nudges of lemon, grapefruit, papaya and hints of nectarine. You might even detect traces of floral as the sipping goes on.
Those aromas are augmented heavily by tastes of grapefruit and lemon, when you first take a sip. Afterwards, we noticed hints of papaya, coconut, a not unwelcome touch of overall sharpness.
Moreover, Magic is medium-thick bodied, with carbonation emerging moderately. That level of carbonated sparkle plays well with the flavors. There is a touch of astringency to finish things off, blended with a juicy undertone. The finish is dry, and that sharp dryness permeates right to the end.
Overall, Everyday Magic presents a plethora of tropical flavors, distinct juiciness and touches of coconut for some added complexity. Best paired with a choice from the grill, and Sawdust recommends a dish of Thai Coconut Curry or Grilled Asparagus for optimal meal accompaniment.
