TGIF: Stand By For Transmission
Let’s be honest…there are worse ways to kickstart the weekend than with a cold beverage.
And yet, it’s easy to fall into a routine of buying the same couple of beers or spirits at your favorite watering hole or the LCBO. Of course, there’s always going to be your standard go-to’s. But mixing it up (get it…mixing???) makes for a fun outing.
With that in mind, we’re taking a shot (bet you thought we would stop with the drinking puns after that first one) at finding you a weekly selection of spirits to liven up your Friday.
This week why don’t you try…
LIVE TRANSMISSION MILKSHAKE IPA – FLYING MONKEY’S
This beer pours a mostly clear, medium golden yellow colour. That gives way to four flabby fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and moderately fizzy head. That leaves a some decent layered and banded webbed lace around the glass as it evenly disseminates.
The initial smell is of bready and crackery pale malt, with faint generic citrus rind and some damp minerality. There is also an understated leafy, musty, and piney ‘green’ hoppiness.
As we get to the taste, there are ebbs and flows of grainy cereal malt and coconut cream, balanced by distinct citrus elements, a flinty stoniness and musky, yet floral hop bitters.
The carbonation is average in its palate-cupping frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth. It finishes off-dry, that coconut milkshake essence really hard to shake off.
Under the hood, Live Transmisson comes in with an ABV 6.3% | IBUs 60
Overall, this an interesting brew. Well crafted, although not necessarily a regular or a favourite. Paired well with salty fare, or a spicier dish, such as tacos or a burger with barbeque sauce.
