Pumpkin season is upon us.

The onset of Fall means it is time to begin decorating front stoops and porches with those familiar orange tinged fruits. (And for every café on earth to offer pumpkin themed drinks).

And luckily for local autumn enthusiasts, there are plenty of nearby spots to pick your pumpkin.

The Best Pumpkin Patches Around Barrie

Chappell Farms

Open 7 days a week, Chappell Farms offers a host of fall fun.

Besides picking your own pumpkin (free with admission) you and the famjam can hit an obstacle course, corn maze, hay bale run and take part in animal feeding.

Weekends are even more packed, with train and wagon rides, a haunted tent, magic show and a bouncy castle.

The pumpkin patch and fall festival runs until Oct. 31st.

Barrie Hill Farms

You can pick pumpkins at Barrie Hill Farms through October. But their fall festival happens this weekend, with warm apple cider and freshly made apple cider donuts, live music, a magician and local artisan vendors.

Moreover, pumpkins aren’t the only thing in season right now. Barrie Hill offers a grab bag’s worth of fresh picked deliciousness, including squash, apples and kiwi.

While you’re at it, grab a few baby pumpkins to fill out the festive decor around the house.

Round’s Ranch

Besides picking out your pumpkin, you can dive into the fun that is Round’s Ranch’s Pumpkin Mania.

Ziplines, corn cannons, giant jumping pillows, low ropes courses, Bronco Buckin’ and multiple mazes are just a few of the activities guaranteed to tire out your little ones.

Bring your appetite as well; those who are hungry (and brave) enough can try their luck at the pumpkin pie eating contest.

Beginning Thanksgiving Weekend, you can expand your search for the great pumpkin to include Drysdale Tree Farms.

The on-site fun includes wagon rides, a sand mountain and a pick pocket magician.

Furthermore, if you’re looking for a few seasonal pieces for the house, you can hit up the Evergreen store to level up your Halloween décor.

More Patches and Festivals

Harris Farms on George Johnston road is another terrific locale to pick a pumpkin. Their farm also offers a rustic roadside market that features plenty of seasonal vegetables, baked goods, preserves and maple syrup.

Further north, you can visit Discovery Harbour for PumpkinFerno, starting Oct. 6th. Take home a hand carved pumpkin, and take in the spooky spectacles like Grim Reaper’s Grove.

There’s also Morrison Pumpkin Farm outside of Collingwood, Brown’s Farm nearer to Barrie, and Murphy’s Farm Market in Alliston.
