Road Trippin’ Part 16
Barrie’s central location makes us a prime hub to launch car voyages through the warm weather months. Every week through the end of October, we’ll bring a new Ontario destination you can reach in a day by car. And if you’ve got suggestions, we want to hear them!
Road Trippin’ Part 16 – Uxbridge
Known as the ‘Trail Capital of Canada,’ Uxbridge is a definite go-to for hikers on the prowl for new paths. The town features over 220 km of managed trails that wind through wetlands, forests and villages. Check the Discover Uxbridge website for a complete listing of trails.
If urban exploration is more your speed, you can take the self-guided Uxbridge Historical Walking Tour, with over 35 points of interest to see in just two hours.
Moreover, trainspotters in the fam will also want to hit up the York Durham Heritage Railway. The retro train runs regularly through the warm weather months.
There’s also the Thomas Foster Memorial. The Uxbridge native visited the Taj Mahal in India during the 1970s, and apparently left quite an impression. Foster came home and and created a marble memorial filled with 22k gold mosaics.
Anyone say shopping? Hit up Brock Street and you’ll find gift shops like Blue Barn Creative and Presents Presents Presents alongside Blue Heron Books, Preston Gallery, Rutledge Jewellers, candy store Sugar FX and plenty of other one of a kind stores.
And we would never recommend a destination without a good craft beer option, so be sure to patronize Second Wedge Brewing on Victoria street for a can or two before heading home.
